web 2.0 education suite?

i've been toying with the concept of developing a suite of web 2.0 technologies for an online 'education pack' for the developing world, e.g. online word processors, educational links etc, that could be used in conjunction with the $100 laptops in areas where funds and materials are limited...

in the uk, almost 5 times as much money is being spent on computer equipment as is being spent on books ... what does this say about the evolution of our educational model?
